I think that historical memory is very different in the US, due to a lack of connection to struggles. Leftists in Greece and Spain for example, were sent to death camps like Mauthausen:

When organizing becomes more than an activity and a way of making friends it takes on serious dynamics and involves life and death consequences. As a result, militants involved need to think more strategically about winning, because losing is unthinkable.
